Good time had by all at Parliamentary gathering of the Southland clansBy Alan Tristram
Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt chatting – his favourite occupation – with Invercargill-born Sandra Linning from Raumati South on the Kapiti Coast at a massive gathering in Parliament’s Banquet Hall to celebrate everything about Invercargill and Southland.
They were discussing Sandra’s brother David, who Tim knows in Invercargill.
Those who were there said Mayor Shadbolt certainly knows how to work the floor with sincerity (and enjoy himself).
There were close to 500 guests with Southland connections at the gathering, including local list MP, and Finance Minster, Bill English, and Labour MP Trevor Mallard.
Several prizes were awarded on drawn entry ticket number, with the top prize being a stayover on Stewart Island. The woman who drew the first prize magnanimously let the prize be redrawn (Perhaps she had been there once before!)
