Health Board boss to attend Community Board meeting

A Kapiti Health advocacy Group may be a step closer after this week’s Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board meeting. It’ll be attended by the Capital and Coast Health Board’s chief executive (CE).

CE Debbie Chin ‘s presence comes  after a health forum meeting held in March and a second meeting last week.

It is expected to be part of a presentation by the local Primary Health Care organisation on Tuesday evening (9/5/17) about new models of care for Kapiti.

The health campaign goes back to October 2015. And last December Mayor Gurunathan asked community board member Kathy Spiers to bring people from health organisations and interest groups together to identify the major health concerns within Kapiti.

Among the concerns raised at the March meeting are

~ the lack of services within Kapiti, particularly between 10pm and 7am

~ access to Accident and Emergency at Kenepuru Hospital

~ shortcomings in the Kapiti Health shuttle, including wheelchair access.

The community board wants the KCDC to include Health and Social services in its long-term plan for the next 20 years.

It also wants a partnership to be set up between the Capital and Coast DHB, the Mid-Central DHB, KCDC and the proposed Health Advocacy Group.

And it will be asking the two district health boards  to carry out a Kapiti Health and Disability Needs assessment.
