HUNGRY BURGLARS TAKE
GIRL GUIDE BISCUIT(S)
March 17, 2010
The reports about problems with this year’s Girl Guide biscuits have not deterred some local burglars.
Kapiti’s Neighbourhood Support co-ordinator, Shona Jaunas, says some “obviously hungry burglars” have broken into the Te Kupe Girl Guide Hall recently– and have stolen Girl Guide biscuits.
(Earlier this week, it was reported that the manufacturer of Girl Guide biscuits had received complaints about the quality of the biscuits this year)
However, says Ms Jaunas, there was more a serious crime in Waikanae, where thieves have taken copper piping from a building.
Ms Jaunas says: “In the past, there have been thefts of copper piping and hot water tanks from new building sites.
“It is something to be aware of if you are building a new home or you live next door to a building. site.
“If there are any suspicious-looking people hanging around the site, particularly after normal working hours, it may be worth making a call to the Police.”
N/Support Vital in Civil Emergency
She also says:” Neighbourhood Support is really important — not just to encourage community spirit and help keep an eye out for each other, but also because it could be your life line if we have a major civil emergency in Kapiti.
“If you are not currently in a Neighbourhood Support Group, please contact Shona Jaunas on 297 3131 or at shona@safercommunity.org.nz “
