GRANT ROBERTSON VISITS KAPITI

Importance of Support staff

By Peter Corlett

Grant Robertson, Labour’s minister of Tertiary Education, and electorate MP for Wellington Central, has been talking to a group of Support Staff from Kapiti Schools .

Grant Robertson, who paid a visit to Kapiti last week, spoke of his long association with education through his family connections and the importance of Support Staff to the running of NZ schools. He commended them on their commitment to working on behalf of children in this region.

Support staff fulfil a wide range tasks in NZ schools as teacher aides, career advisors, working in classrooms with children with physical and intellectual needs, office administrators, school secretaries, administrative assistants, and librarians in both primary and secondary schools.

The morning meeting meant an even earlier start than usual for over forty local Support Staff from Kapiti schools as they attended a breakfast at the Paraparaumu RSA.

The breakfast was hosted by NZEI, the Primary Teachers professional body.
