Gill Ward’s Poem For Today

‘Doing lunch’  —

‘I asked my friend if he wanted to do lunch
He said that lunch
was for corporate losers climbing the ladder
one rung at a time
I said here was me
thinking lunch was for people who got hungry around lunchtime
and could afford lunch.
Another friend said that sounded like a poem.
I said that
Dry observations about basically anything sound like poems.
He persisted, saying that I should write the poem
and put in a lunch box
and take it to lunch
and take it out of the lunchbox, and say
“I brought my poem. It is my lunch. It is your lunch.”
I said I would.
So here it is.
Isn’t it delicious.
