Former Kāpiti Mayor Jenny Rowan has described the process for considering proposed changes to local government on the Kāpiti Coast as ‘disappointing’ and ‘undemocratic.’
The grass-roots connection through Community Boards had worked quite well she said, noting Mayor Gurunathan’s public commitment to the boards.
Jenny Rowan’s strong comments came during public submissions to a KCDC workshop on proposed changes to
council wards — and the abolition of boards.
Ms Rowan also said local government is facing massive change – referring to the government instigated review of the sector plus proposed changes under the Three Waters – which could “put the entire sector on its ear.”
And returning to the local issues, she reiterated: “Keep the boards”.
