Swimming Wellington says the annual Wellington Long Distance Swimming Meet, which was the first competition held at the new Aquatic Centre in Paraparaumu, has been a great success.
The meet took place held at Coastland’s Aquatic Centre last Sunday.
Some 140 Swimmers from as far as Whanganui and the Wairararapa competed in 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events.
Operations Manager Henrietta Latham of Swimming Wellington says the attendance was the largest in nine years, something she attributes to the new Kāpiti venue.
“Everyone was impressed with facility. They loved the deep water, which makes swimming fast. It was a great meet with good times and the aquatic staff were exceptional,” she says.
The Coastlands Aquatic Centre, which is hosting some school groups this week, will officially open to the public with a day of celebrations and promotions on August 10.
