Kapiti Councillor will defend charges brought against him
The Kapiti Independent understands Kapiti Coast District Councillor, David Scott. has now been charged by Police with a sexual offence involving a female Council worker.
A preliminary Court hearing is taking place today.
This is the first time in living memory that an elected Kapiti councillor has faced such a charge (indecent assault).
Cr Scott has denied the allegations, which stem from an alleged incident during a coffee break at a Council meeting last month.
Kapiti Independent has been informed Cr Scott has taken high-level legal advice and will be defending the case.
Origin of the complaint

A ‘Stuff’ report on April 24 said Cr Scott, who is 71, has lost a committee chairmanship as a result of the morning tea incident.
It stated Cr Scott said he did not recall specifics about the alleged incident, but had explained he was a diabetic and had taken a shot of insulin at the time.
He was likely to have been squeezing past the woman, to get to a food table across the crowded room at the council offices when it happened, he is reported to have said.
Election victory last year
In the local body elections last year, Cr Scott achieved the second highest number of votes for a district-wide councillor, just behind Cr Jackie Elliott.
He is serving his third term as KCDC councillor.
Once again … while the rest of the world is on fire, people sleep in cars, children go without food, parents are on meth, the oceans are full of plastic and devoid of fish: The Kapiti Council or rather one of it’s people’s representatives has found something to argue about.
