Classical Piano Trio in Paekakariki

Talented musicians to perform in the village

Te Koki Trio: Martin Riseley – violin, Jian Liu – piano, Inbal Megiddo – cello

An exciting concert is coming to the Kapiti Coast on Sunday 28 May, when Mulled Wine Concerts presents the Te Koki Trio at the beautiful beachfront Memorial Hall,in Paekakariki.

The Trio comprises three full-time members of the staff from New Zealand School of Music:

~ Martin Riseley (violin)

  ~ Inbal Megiddo (cello)

  ~ Jian Liu (piano)

They have all had extensive careers as professional musicians, performing both nationally and internationally.

Between 2011 and 2016, they have performed in all New Zealand’s main centres, including Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, etc., as well as Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and China, with further national and international performances planned for 2018.

An exciting programme

The centrepiece of the programme will be Beethoven’s fabulous “Archduke Trio”, so known because it was dedicated to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, the youngest child of Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor.

Rudolf was an amateur pianist and a patron, friend, and composition student of Beethoven.

The trio was written late in the Beethoven’s so-called “middle period”. He began composing it in the summer of 1810, and completed it in March

Martin Risely

1811.

Other pieces to be featured include:

~ Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Piano

~ Bach Cello Suite in C

~ Carmen Fantasy, Op. 25, by Pablo de Sarasate

The latter is a violin fantasy on themes from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. A version of this with piano accompaniment was published in 1882.

More quality music in wonderful Paekakariki

Mulled Wine Concerts organiser Mary Gow says

We are indeed happy to again present top-level musicians in Paekakariki. The links with the New Zealand School of Music are growing stronger and New Zealand is increasingly recognised as a power-house of classical music in the Southern Hemisphere.”

Paekakariki is one of the jewels of the Kapiti Coast and features coastal walks, cycle trails and a long, beautiful beach as well as the hotel, cafes and restaurants.

What better way for concert-goers to combine their outdoor activities to have a special day out, finishing off with some fine music?
