Coronavirus has hit Kapiti Coast music lovers, with the cancellation of a performance by the renowned overseas pianist Oleg Marshev.

The Waikanae Music Society says members have been looking forward to March 29 and the chance of hearing one of their most popular visiting pianists, the internationally-acclaimed Oleg Marshev who last visited New Zealand in 2016.
It says: “The border controls announced over the weekend mean that he has had no choice but to cancel his New Zealand tour.
Born in the Azerbaijani capital city
Marshev, born in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku, was trained in
Moscow and earned early successes in numerous international
competitions, including four first prizes.
He has become an established
performer with the world’s major orchestras and appears in the top
concert halls of the world, as well as being a prolific recording artist with
over 45 CDs to his name.
“Initially the Society’s organisers planned to present a replacement performer but given the worsening coronavirus situation they have decided it is wiser to completely cancel.”
People who may have already purchased tickets are advised to return them to the ticketing agent where they bought them for a refund, or to contact the Society’s Treasurer (04 293 4025).
