As we grow older hiding the telltale signs can become more difficult, but embracing the joys that come with old age can help you make the mental adjustment.

While our bodies may be a little slower, it is important to remember we can be smarter, more experienced and have more time for the activities we enjoy.

Maintaining a good diet and exercise plan is important, no matter what age you are. As you get older this will help prevent any potential health problems. Your endorphin hormones, found mainly in the brain, relieve pain and favourably stimulate the emotions. Keeping them pumping will promote a healthy, active mind.

Keep your social circle filled with people that make you smile. – Having a happy state of mind helps influence the ways you react to things.

Dress smartly.  Add a few trendy pieces to your wardrobe – it will make you look and feel good. Experiment with different hairstyles and colours.  A consultation with a good hairdresser should open up a world of manageable style options.

Keep up your skincare routine. – A trip to the Beauty Therapist for a facial is a great treat and an excellent way to get advice on skin problems.

Modifying your makeup is mandatory.  Do not use the makeup you were wearing in your twenties as you head into your sixties.

Lighten your application and soften your colours.  Avoid glittery eye-shadow as this has a tendency to gather in fine lines, making them appear more noticeable.

It is important to get enough rest.  You cannot function at your best when you are tired.

A good habit to get into before you rise in the morning is to think of at least three things you are grateful for. This will get you off to a good start each day.

You are never too old to learn something new.

Get involved in a club, charity work, or any sort of social activity that will keep you mentally stimulated and occupied.

`Getting away` can do you the world of good, especially over the colder, drearier months. Heading to a warmer, exotic location will give you a boost.

Learn to embrace technology. Do not fear it. Computers may seem daunting but they can make your life so much easier.

There are tutors available who can come to your home and teach you, in a matter of hours, how to master the internet and other aspects of your computer that you may want to learn about.

Seek professional help if you feel depressed.

Aging is something we will all have to face. Focusing on the benefits of old age will help you remain satisfied with your life.
